The first glass objects for everyday use were made in Egypt around 1500BC. 2500 years later, 11th century Venice, became the European
center for quality glass manufacturing. After glassmaker forges started several disastrous fires that all but destroyed Venice, a city
decree required the glass industry to the island of Murano. The move to Murano sparked the flowering of Venetian glass-making. Murano became the center of the glass industry in Europe from the 15th through the 17th centuries. It remains world renown for the quality and the originality of its glass designs.
